Module 2: Personal Responsibility & Professional Behavior
Module Objective
Students will understand that employment is a responsibility, not a favor, and that professional behavior is a daily choice that directly affects trust, hours, pay, promotions, and long-term opportunity.
Big Idea
Employers don’t manage adults — they partner with responsible people.
What Employers Expect (Unspoken Rules)
By the end of this module, students should internalize that employers expect:
Reliability (showing up on time, every time)
Ownership (your work, your mistakes, your growth)
Consistency (same effort on good days and bad days)
Respect (for customers, coworkers, systems, and leadership)
Lesson 2.1 — Responsibility Starts Before the Clock
Key Concepts:
Being late is not a time issue — it’s a trust issue
Transportation, alarms, clothing, meals, and rest are your responsibility
“Something came up” is not an excuse in professional environments
Student Takeaway:
If you’re not ready before work starts, you’re already behind.
Lesson 2.2 — Your Actions Represent the Company
Key Concepts:
You are a brand ambassador the moment you clock in
Customers judge the business by:
Your tone
Your body language
Your facial expressions
Bad attitudes cost companies money — fast
Student Takeaway:
When you wear the uniform, you represent something bigger than yourself.
Lesson 2.3 — Accountability vs. Excuses
Accountability Sounds Like:
“That’s on me.”
“I missed that — here’s how I’ll fix it.”
“I understand. It won’t happen again.”
Excuses Sound Like:
“That’s not my fault.”
“No one told me.”
“That’s not my job.”
Student Takeaway:
Employers promote accountability. They replace excuses.
Lesson 2.4 — Professional Behavior Even When No One Is Watching
Key Concepts:
Cameras, managers, and customers aren’t always present — integrity still matters
The best employees:
Work at full effort without supervision
Help teammates without being asked
Protect company property and time
Student Takeaway:
Character is what you do when you think it doesn’t matter.
Lesson 2.5 — Attitude Is a Job Skill
Employers Can Train:
Tasks
Systems
Tools
Employers Cannot Train:
Work ethic
Coachability
Emotional maturity
Respect
Student Takeaway:
Your attitude determines how far your skills will take you.
Real-World Employer Truth
“I can teach someone how to do the job.
I cannot teach someone to care.”
Module 2 Assignments
Student Reflection (Written or Video)
What does “personal responsibility” mean in a workplace?

Effort level
Respectful communication
Accountability
Emotional control
Module 2 Outcome

Understand professional expectations
Take ownership of their actions
Are ready to be trusted with responsibility
