Bomb Cyclone Brings Hazardous Roads and Whiteout Conditions to Northern Michigan

Описание: A bomb cyclone swept through northern Michigan Sunday night into Monday, December 29, creating hazardous roads, limited visibility and blizzard-like conditions across the state.

After some parts of the Eastern U.P. saw up to two feet of snow, that winter storm has moved on although there will continue to be snow chances this week (especially in the snowbelts) along with colder temperatures overall heading into the New Year.

TUESDAY (DEC 30): A couple snow showers are possible in the morning Tuesday although it will be relatively quiet the first half of the day. A clipper arrives Tuesday afternoon leading to a flare-up of light to moderate snow in the afternoon into the evening Tuesday with 1-3" possible by the end of the day for several spots across Northern Michigan. Highs between 17-23F. NW wind 10-20 mph with a few higher gusts.

WEDNESDAY (DEC 31-NEW YEAR'S EVE): A rather typical winter day to close out 2025 with continued lake effect snow targeting the NW snowbelts of the Eastern U.P. and Lower Michigan. Away from the lake effect snow showers skies remain overcast. Highs from 15-23F. The wind will pick up in the afternoon/evening becoming gusty so there will be some blowing snow. NNW wind 15-25 with gusts to 35 mph in the afternoon/evening.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT (NEW YEAR'S EVE NIGHT): Lake effect snow continue to roll in with a few breaks in the clouds as well. Cold. Overnight lows from 2-12F.

THURSDAY (JAN 1-NEW YEAR'S DAY): We will still see some lake effect snow showers to open up the New Year but they won't be as widespread or numerous. In fact a little sunshine may try to break through the clouds at times Thursday. A cold day however. High temperatures will sit in the mid-teens for all of Northern Michigan.

LONGER RANGE FORECAST: Lake effect snow showers will persist through Friday. Next weekend looks quiet with no major systems of note and a bit of a break from the lake effect snow with cloudy skies next Saturday/Sunday. High temperatures next weekend generally reaching the 20's.
