She explains it was not like David said I want to start a spiritual community; rather, people came to him, saying: “I am your student, I want to learn from you, and I want to live with you” This is very important, Frances explains, because it shows that from the very beginning the focus has been that we are not leading with form; with a plan or an idea about how things are going to look. The whole purpose is Awakening, which requires an openness to be shown. We cannot untangle from the belief in time and space from within the realm of time and space. We have to be led out by something outside of it.

Frances also shares how when she first came to the community, she did not have an intention to live in spiritual community. But after making a leap of faith by giving up her old life, the next step came in that she was to visit David in Utah for mind-training. From there she kept following the next step after the next. She explains that you can not go to a community, or anywhere to try and make something out of it, in terms of goals in time and space. That is the opposite of Awakening and it will not work.

David shares that to him Community is communion with Spirit. His prayer was always: Be You in charge. When we are all praying together and our minds are all connected to this same purpose, life is like a dance. It is so spontaneous, and so joyful and happy. That is what community and communion are.

David speaks about how he in 1991 was guided to go on a “drive-about” that ended up lasting for 5 years. In this time he visited many different people and groups with different sets of rules, but David's lesson was to not be concerned with groups or rules. His focus was solely to stay attentive to his deep and intimate relationship with Jesus, and this has been the foundation of our community ever since.
