Mount Massive was a beautiful Sufferfest for me. I ended me up with a flat tire on my drive back to North Half Moon Creek TH, but decided to push on and deal with my tire issue later. The sun was hot on this day and the trail was open and exposed to all of the sun's ferocity. I loved the wildflowers and the views hard earned by such a steep trail! I choose to take The Southwest Slopes route up and down. This is not the standard route, this is the shorter route that is far steeper than the East Slopes route most people take. I got lost a little bit on the hike back down, but quickly found my way back on trail and soon enough back to my car with the flat tire in waiting. A jack and some elbow grease got me back on the road, and over to Mount Elbert's Trailhead, where I poised to climb another 14er the following day.

Start 7:40am (North Half Moon Creek TH @ 10,500’)
#12 Summit 11:10am (3:30hr ascent via The Southwest Slopes)
Left top 12:10pm (1hr break)
Back at van 2:50pm (2:40hr descent via the same route)
Total time car to car: 7 hours 10 minutes
