There is debate whether lower annual volume of pediatric cardiac surgery procedures performed in a certain hospital causes poorer patient outcomes. Here, the authors conducted a national, real-world study of the outcomes of pediatric cardiac surgery. A total of 25,749 operations performed by 235 hospitals were included in the study. There was no statistically significant difference in risk-adjusted in-hospital mortality when comparing low-, mid-, and high-volume centers for seven Society of Thoracic Surgeons benchmark procedures.
