How to make an animated(GIF) Left 4 Dead 2 spray

DONT TICK "GENERATE MIPMAPS" IN VTFedit.
A simple tutorial about making animated sprays on l4d2.

The tutorial can be broken down into a few steps:
Upload to ezgif.
Optimize gif: Remove every 2nd frame (if you have more than 15-12 frames). I don't think "lossy gif" and "color reduction" do much even though I used them in the video.
Resize gif: Recommended 256x256 or 128 x 128. For gifs with non square resolutions read the "Good to know section" (ANIMATED SPRAYS WITH TRANSPARENCY (ALPHA BITS)) or you can just crop/stretch it to a square using the ezgif website.
Split gif.
Import frames into VTFedit with the following recommended combinations:
DXT1 and 256x256 for 10-15 frames: low-medium quality
DXT5 and 128x128 for 10-15 frames: low-medium quality (similar results to the previous combination) and transparency
DXT5 and 256x256 for 5-10 frames: high quality and transparency

Good to know:
-The spray CAN'T BE SEEN in game if the VTF file is bigger than 512 kb.
-The spray cannot play faster in game (engine limitation).
-DXT1 compresses the file the most, although DXT5 is better for quality and alpha bits(allows transparency) at a cost of a little bigger file size.
-ANIMATED SPRAYS WITH TRANSPARENCY (ALPHA BITS):DXT1 with 1 alpha bit is buggy in VTFedit. If you have a gif with alpha bits (transparency) you will need it though, because the only remaining options DXT3 and DXT5 will make the file size too big (although you are welcome to try them and see if your file will be below 512 KB). -It is recommended to choose "Resize filter" as Sine cardinal for slightly better quality.
-If you cant select the spray file in the in-game browser(it changes the folder when you double click on it) rename the vtf.
-You can reduce the spray "cooltime" pressing (press T and it sprays whenever you want) by writing in chat !cvar decalfrequency 0.1 if you are subscribed to admin system addon from workshop( or bind [ "say !cvar decalfrequency 0.1") .
