In this video, we will discuss the most important services that must be given to mango plants during February and March to boost production. These two months are very critical because most mango varieties in Pakistan enter the flowering and fruit-setting stage. Proper care during this period directly affects fruit quantity, size, and overall yield. If farmers ignore timely management, flowering may drop, fruit setting may be weak, and production can decrease significantly.
First of all, proper nutrient management is essential. During February, apply a balanced fertilizer dose including Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potash according to tree age. Potassium is especially important at flowering because it improves fruit setting and reduces flower drop. Along with soil fertilization, a foliar spray of Boron (such as boric acid) at early flowering helps improve pollination and fruit retention. Zinc can also be sprayed if deficiency symptoms appear. Always ensure irrigation is light and controlled; excessive water at flowering can cause flower shedding.
Secondly, pest and disease management plays a major role. Mango hopper and powdery mildew are very common during flowering. If not controlled on time, they can severely damage flowers. Farmers should monitor their orchards regularly and spray recommended insecticides and fungicides at the correct stage. Sprays should preferably be done in the evening to protect pollinators like bees, which are very important for fruit setting.
Pruning and orchard hygiene are also important during this period. Remove diseased, dead, or overcrowded branches to improve sunlight penetration and air circulation. Clean the orchard floor by removing weeds, fallen leaves, and infected plant parts. This reduces pest hiding places and disease spread. Light hoeing can also help in better nutrient absorption and soil aeration.
Lastly, after fruit setting in March, apply a second balanced spray including Potassium and micronutrients to support small fruit development. Avoid water stress during early fruit growth, but do not over-irrigate. Proper care in February and March determines the final production of your mango orchard. If these practices are followed carefully, farmers can achieve higher yield, better fruit size, and improved market quality.
