Barossa Valley’s Master Cooper Andrew Young shares exclusive behind the scenes footage of his cooperage, where he’s deliberately continued to favour hand-tool cooperage in place of mass production, to craft oak planks into barrels.
Cooperage as an industry dates back 2000 years to the 1800s and Andrew is determined to retain the skills taught during his apprenticeship to uphold the traditional ways.
Some of Andrew's well-worn tools are date-stamped from the 1900s and we love that some of our early Carbatec machines are still in use and playing their part alongside these beautiful old hand tools in the production of these repurposed oak barrels!
