Immigrants who have overstayed their visa terms in Namibia are being given a final chance to leave the country.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security (MHAISS) has now extended the amnesty deadline to 20 January 2026.
The ministry urges all eligible foreign nationals whose visas have expired to present themselves voluntarily at the nearest immigration office or border post before the deadline.
Those coming forward must have valid travel or identification documents, such as a passports or national IDs.
For those without travel documents, the ministry says they must first approach their country's embassies, high commission or consulate to obtain emergency travel documents.
Once that is done they are expected to report to Namibian immigration authorities.
The MHAISS has also made it clear that the Namibian government will not cover any travel costs for those leaving under the amnesty.
Immigration officials will only facilitate the legal exit process and provide the required administrative documentation, including departure notices.
The ministry says a 5-day notice will be issued to help individuals prepare for departure at their chosen port of exit.
Even if a person's home country borders Namibia and their travel documents have expired, authorities say they will still facilitate their departure at the border.
The ministry warned that this is the final extension, and anyone who fails to comply within the remaining time frame will face law-enforcement action.
