During a live Jatra (folk theatre) performance in Odisha, chaos erupted when audience members threw chairs towards the stage and assaulted a performing artist. The shocking incident disrupted the play and left the spectators stunned. The Odia source states: “ଯାତ୍ରା ମଂଚରେ କଳାକାରଙ୍କ ଉପରକୁ ଚେୟାର ଫିଙ୍ଗିଲେ, ପିଟିଲେ ଦର୍ଶକ,” which literally means “Spectators threw chairs at the artist on the Jatra stage and beat him.”

Eyewitnesses described a sudden outburst from some members of the crowd. Though the exact reason for the confrontation remains unclear in the brief report, the assault raises questions over performer safety and crowd control at local cultural events.

The Jatra, a traditional open-air theatre of Odisha, continues to draw large rural audiences, but occasional incidents like this underline the challenges of maintaining order during popular performances.
