New Carrollton, MD Railfanning 5-10-22 Part 1: Amtrak, MARC, and lots of Metros

Описание: Last week, I went back to the Northeast Corridor, partly to catch more Acelas before they're replaced. I went to New Carrollton this time, because I was also in the mood for some DC Metro action. Very busy day! Enjoy!

Train 1: When I arrived at New Carrollton, MARC 413 was already there. Got him leaving while I was hunting for a parking spot.

Train 2 (0:55): Right after 413 left, MARC 414 arrives and departs.

(1:37): Just got my stuff out of the car when I barely caught a Breda 3000 series Metro going into the yard. The Orange Line ends here at New Carrollton.

(2:28): A 7000 series Washington Metro pulls up to the station before going back into the yard. The 7000 series are currently out of service for the time being to have their axles inspected. The older 2000s and 3000s are handling most of the commuters.

(3:43): A 3000 series Metro departs New Carrollton for Vienna, VA. Next stop: Landover.

(4:57): Another 7000 series Metro pulls up to the station before going back into the yard. This is another axle inspection, the train is not in service.

Train 3 (5:25): MARC 525 arrives and departs New Carrollton.

(6:28): A 3000 series WMATA Orange Line Metro arrives in New Carrolton as the first 7000 series we saw earlier pulls up again. This set even two cars with silver vinyl wraps that makes them look almost like the 7000 series. We then watch the same 3000 set head back toward the city. I filmed most of the Metro action, but not all of it, since I often had to mind my camera's battery and memory and that most of the Metros looked pretty much identical.

Trains 4 and 5 (8:36): Amtrak 174 makes its station stop in New Carrollton, and a minute later, Amtrak 183 does the same. Still miss the AEM-7s!

Train 6 (13:44): MARC 416 pulls into the station. Didn't film the departure this time.

Train 7 (14:24): Amtrak 79 blows by the station, then an inbound 3000 series D.C. Metro arrives.

(15:51): Later, another 3000 series Orange Line Metro pulls into New Carrollton, then heads back out to Vienna.

(17:25): Another 3000 series WMATA Orange Line Metro pulls in.

Train 8 (17:46): MARC 427 arrives and departs. Then we watch the Metro train depart.

Train 9 (21:32): Amtrak 84 arrives and departs. If only the engine was a number up! Unfortunately, I did not catch 642 or 662 that day (I caught 642 on both Seabrook visits last year).

(28:20): Another 3000 series Metro arrives, then later sets off on its next round trip.

Train 12 (29:55): Acela 2151 races through New Carrollton.
Power Cars 2025 and 2023

(30:20): Yet another 3000 series Metro arrives in New Carrollton.

(31:08): Another Orange Line 3000 series Metro arrives, stopping short of the platform first for some reason.

Train 13 (31:56): As the Metro pulls in, MARC 429 arrives. When 429 continues to D.C., the same Metro leaves on its next run.

Train 14 (33:38): Amtrak 176 arrives and departs. During the station stop, the engineer and two others got out of the cab. Hell if I know what for, or why there's a third person. Trainee, perhaps?

Train 15 (35:54): MARC 520 arrives and departs New Carrollton.

(37:47): The Metro from earlier with the two vinyl wrapped cars in the middle returns to New Carrollton.

(38:33): More Metro madness. Another 3000 series Metro pulls in.

Train #16 (39:29): Amtrak 141 makes its stop in New Carrollton and races the Metro from the previous clip on the way out.

(42:20): Another Orange Line 3000 series Metro pulls in. After the station stop, the Metro accelerates out of New Carrollton, going back to Vienna.

Train 17 (43:34): MARC 431 arrives and departs. Thanks for the horn salute!

Train 19 (47:29): Amtrak 184 arrives and departs.

(49:35): A WMATA 3000 series Metro arrives in New Carrollton. Then after swapping passengers with the station, the Metro begins its next trip down the Orange Line.

Train 20 (51:36): Acela 2168 catches me off guard as it breezes up the Corridor! I almost forgot he had left D.C. already. At this same time, Acela 2155 was already south of Odenton.
Power Cars 2023 and 2025

Train 21 (51:45): Acela 2155 speeds by New Carrollton, nearing the end of its run. Unlike MSTS, Acelas do not stop in New Carrollton!
Power Cars 2039 and 2035

Train 22 (52:21): Amtrak 95 arrives and departs.
