Intermittent Fasting has been getting a lot of attention in the fitness industry the last few years, so I wanted to ask a very popular question and give you my take on if it can help you build muscle mass as an ectomorph.

Intermittent fasting simply means that you are going through stages of fasting. The typical intermittent fasting window is about 16 hours long, with some guys going as long as 20-22 hours for even greater results.

The reason that guys try this diet strategy for building muscle mass is that it can have a very positive impact on your energy levels, testosterone, and HGH levels.

As you know, increasing your body’s anabolic hormones is really important for building lean muscle mass. There are several powerful research studies that indicate IF as a means to increase your HGH and testosterone levels.

In this video I discuss my own personal experience with intermittent fasting, as well as three very important steps you need to make sure you do if you aim to build muscle mass during your fast (especially crucial if you are an ectomorph).

Just a quick summary of the main take-away, even if you are performing IF you STILL need to hit a quality calorie surplus for your body to grow. If your goal is fat loss intermittent fasting makes it a lot easier to reduce your daily calorie intake since you are only eating in a small window each day. If done properly, it can be effective for either muscle building or fat loss.
