Day 5 of our Winter Spiti Valley 4x4 Expedition takes us deep into the heart of Spiti — from Tabo to Kaza, via the iconic Dhankar Monastery.

This route is one of the most dramatic drives in Spiti Valley, especially in winters. Narrow cliff roads, frozen patches, river crossings, and extreme cold make this day a true test for both driver and machine.

Dhankar Monastery, perched high above the confluence of the Spiti and Pin rivers, feels even more powerful and raw during winter — surrounded by silence and snow-dusted mountains.

We are traveling in a convoy of 8 fully prepared 4x4 vehicles (Jimny & Thar) under Vix Expeditions, experiencing Spiti in its most untouched winter form.

By evening, we reach Kaza, the main town of Spiti Valley — a place that becomes our base to explore the high-altitude villages ahead.
