Why Fusion 360 Cut Lists Are Wrong (And How to Fix Them)

This is an updated and clarified version of a previous video.

In this video, I walk through the updated Fusion 360 Cabinet Optimizer add-in, explain why cut lists sometimes fail, and show the improvements that make the workflow accurate and reliable for hobbyists and small cabinet shops.

These updates fix:

• Part orientation logic (length no longer assumed incorrectly)
• Body visibility control at the group level
• Unit switching (inches ↔ millimeters)
• Export directory history
• Door costing inside the optimizer
• Improved naming structure for accurate material quantities

The biggest fix? Part orientation.

Previously, the add-in assumed the longest dimension was always the length. That’s not true for doors and drawer faces. Now each body is evaluated by X, Y, and Z axis position to ensure correct orientation — which is critical for accurate nesting and sheet optimization.

When imported into the Cabinet Optimizer, the CSV generates:

• Comprehensive cabinet cut lists
• Accurate material quantities
• Cost breakdown estimates
• Vendor-ready door and drawer exports
