The Guardia Civil and Puerto Lumbreras Local Police have seized around three tons of cannabis in Murcia, Spain - the largest seizure of cannabis made by the Spanish authorities to date.

Around 14,000 plants were found growing in four large greenhouses on the grounds of what had been claimed to be a horticultural farm located in the town of Esparragal.

So far police have arrested five individuals who they claim are the main culprits, consisting of two of Spanish nationals and three Moroccans.

Suspicions were initially raised of covert crop-growth following the arrests of four individuals who had previously been involved in a break-in at the farm at the beginning of the month.

The case remains open and the police have not ruled out the possibility of further suspects remaining at large.
