According to reporting at the time, investigators suspected a professional hit, and they examined whether Thomas’s murder was connected to her own father-in-law's death eight years earlier. Lakeway police investigators now say both theories lead to dead ends. However, new search warrants, filed this year and discovered by KXAN Investigators, point to a possible breakthrough in the case.
In this week’s episode of Unsolved: Central Texas, Avery Travis sits down with Lieutenant Jason Brown, who leads the Special Operations Division for the Lakeway Police Department and serves as the lead detective on the case. Lt. Brown talks about how his team is hopeful DNA analysis could soon lead them to the person responsible for Thomas’s death and reveals what key discoveries led investigators to the precipice of what they hope will finally be justice for Betty Thomas.
