This build, for me, checks off many things on my "want" list when it comes to a personal Every Day Carry (EDC) pocket knife. For one, the Benchmade Bugout itself is so amazing! Although I have swapped the pocket clips on almost all of my Bugouts for non-mini deep carry clips, in general even the well thought out mini-deep carry clips are pretty amazing.

Over the course of time, I have enjoyed quite a few knives that I might call EDC knives, and each one has left me wanting "this one detail" after seeing or experiencing another knife. My primary "likes" are that the knife be precise, of course, and the Bugout does not disappoint in this department. The blades on these knives are razor sharp and if you are not careful you will cut yourself or someone else by mistake if you just "play around" with one.

Not long after acquiring my favorite Benchmade, the Gold Class Foray, I found that I wanted a "less fancy" knife for those backcountry experiences where I might hike slot canyons and scrape my "EDC" pocket clip on some rough surface or another, or where I might need to cut some things that could possibly "scratch the finish of the blade" or some other quirky thought like that. This led me to finding the Benchmade Bugout, which is a very great lighter weight alternative to the Benchmade Foray.

During this time, reviewing other users' experiences of these knives, I found a company called Glow Rhino and I immediately upgraded my knives to include the tritium glow pieces for both functionality and also primarily for the fun of it. Who doesn't like a glow in the dark feature? I have found the green tritium pieces bright enough to read maps or other details at night, but more than this I simply enjoy being able to immediately locate my cutting instrument by sight alone even on the darkest night, and so I have to mention this as one of the things that absolutely brings a smile to my day.

As time went by, I found that there are a couple of people who have manufactured Glow In The Dark (GITD) scales, but the scales are made of the traditional "white or cream" and somewhat clear colors that when exposed to light will glow for a short period of time in green, blue, orange, and a variety of other colors. Both the material (clear plastic) and short glow period for these items made me pass on those offerings, but I continued my search for GITD items that could match the FUNctionality of the tritium inserts, and then I found the Bugout Gold Class with the C-Tek inlays in their ghost carbon fiber scales. Those were absolutely a cut above the rest, and so I saved for a period of time so that I could purchase my own 535-191 Gold Class Bugout.

Having had the Bugout for a while, I continued to picture the knife having another blade in place of the gorgeous Damasteel blade. I'd already built a few knives with stone washed/acid etched blades, mostly acquired from Knives Plus, and after a recent discussion I decided to give it a go. I received my intended replacement blade yesterday itself, and on the same day I recorded the swap intending to document the process here on YouTube. Today is 10/30 and I figured this might make a great 10/31 presentation (Ghost Carbon Fiber Scales And All : ) and that it would be a great treat to enjoy here for anyone else interested in thinking outside the box when it comes to their own personalized build.
