The SPHN Federated Clinical Routine Dataset: unlocking data from 800 000 patients for research

In this talk, the Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN) presents a major milestone in national research infrastructure: the Federated Clinical Routine Dataset.
Developed in collaboration with six Swiss university hospitals, this FAIR-compliant dataset brings together routine clinical data from more than 800,000 patients with broad consent, comprising 12.5 billion semantically harmonized facts across diagnoses, procedures, laboratory tests, medications, vital signs, and more.
Researchers can explore the dataset through the SPHN Metadata Catalog, navigating 125 standardized semantic concepts within a knowledge-graph–based structure. The rich metadata provide detailed information on data structure, depth, coverage, and governance, enabling transparent discovery of what data exist and how they can be accessed.
The presentation will dive into the dataset’s content, semantics, and federated architecture, and discuss how this infrastructure unlocks large-scale, collaborative health research at national and international levels.
