MIDDLETON RAILWAY - THE OLDEST WORKING RAILWAY IN THE WORLD
The Railway is just 2 miles from the centre of Leeds. It was built as a colliery railway in 1758, requiring the first ever Railway Act of Parliament in order to build it. On the 24th June 1812, Middleton became the first railway in the world to successfully employ steam locomotives commercially. Today the Railway runs from Moor Road Station to Park Halt on the northern edges of Middleton Park.
This channel charts the progress of various projects the Middleton Railways' dedicated band of volunteers are completing. It also features highlights from a wide variety of special events the railway hosts every year.
