The U.S. Eighth Army of Korea has completed the main phase of its relocation to its new base in Pyeongtaek, some 65 kilometers south of Seoul.
United States Forces Korea will hold an opening ceremony this morning at the Camp Humphreys base.
The Eighth Army, the commanding formation of all U.S. Army forces in South Korea,... began moving its headquarters to Pyeongtaek last April... as part of a move to merge the 80 U.S. military bases scattered across the nation to Pyeongtaek and the southeastern city of Daegu.
The full relocation process is set to be complete by the end of the year.
Camp Humphreys is the biggest peacetime construction project in U.S. military history with the South Korean government picking up the vast majority of the bill.
