These two Microphones, the Blue Ember and the Rode M3 compare very well and both are great options for anyone on a budget, wanting a better quality sound.

The Ember is more a static option where the M3 is pretty versatile. I've even used it (at a pinch) boomed. It can be used portable on its own battery power as well so it is a useful one for odd occasions when you're not sure what kind of room you might be recording in.

For me, the Rode M3 has my vote, but that's basically because of the amount of uses that it can be put to. I have used it boomed, handheld, indoors, outdoors, for instrumental recording and even ambience recording. It's one of those mics that seems to do quite well in many situations, powered or not.

Both have good isolation although again, I think the Rode is better.

The Blue Ember is more a studio type microphone. It is not too obtrusive so would be nice at those times when you need to have mic close and in shot.

I don't mind having mics in shot myself, but some of the big black things in peoples' faces doesn't really look that good imo and actually is one reason why I don't use the Shure sm7B. It needs to be in your face for good sound and I don't like the look personally. Great for audio only, but for me it's not a video microphone.

These two are. The Ember looks nice so is almost like an ornament and the Rode blends in more because it's dark and still pretty narrow. Outdoors, it doesn't need to be that close either.
