WHO's Global TB Report 2025
According to WHOs Global TB Report, 2025, India’s tuberculosis (TB) incidence, fell by 21% — from 237 TB cases per lakh population in 2015 to 187 per lakh population in 2024.
The WHO Global Tuberculosis Report 2025 was released on Nov 12, 2025, providing an update on the global TB epidemic and country-level progress.

Key Findings of the WHO Global TB Report 2025
Global TB Burden:
TB remains the world’s leading cause of death from a single infectious agent, surpassing COVID-19.
An estimated 10.7 million people fell ill with TB and 1.23 million died globally in 2024.
Global progress in reducing TB incidence (12% reduction between 2015 and 2024) far behind WHO’s 2025 target of a 50% reduction.
India’s estimated TB burden in 2024 was around 27.1 lakh cases and over 3 lakh deaths, making it the country with the highest number of cases globally.
Between 2015 and 2024, India achieved a 21% decline in incidence and a 28% decline in deaths
National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP):
2-Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana (NPY): Provides financial support of ₹1,000 per month via Direct Benefit Transfer for the nutritional requirements of TB patients.
3-Ni-kshay Portal: A web-based patient management and surveillance system for real-time monitoring of cases and treatment adherence.
4-Improved Diagnostics & Treatment: Expanded access to NAAT labs, AI-enabled X-rays, and all-oral drug-resistant TB regimens (e.g., Bedaquiline).

Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Scheme was launched in India in 2018 to provide UHC (Universal Health Coverage) for the Indian population.
