Council of Common Interests: Pakistan's Federal Dispute Resolution Body
The Council of Common Interests (CCI) is a primary constitutional agency in Pakistan established to mediate and resolve power-sharing disagreements between the federal government and the provinces. Founded in 1973 and currently operating under the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination, the body is led by the Prime Minister and includes all four provincial Chief Ministers along with three federal appointees. Following legal reforms in 2010, the council is mandated to convene at least once every ninety days to ensure consistent administrative cooperation. Beyond its legal framework, the organization maintains a Secretariat in Islamabad that manages daily operations, hosts educational visits, and facilitates high-level meetings between regional and national leaders. These sources collectively outline the membership structure, historical evolution, and active administrative functions of this vital democratic institution.
