Captain Troels "Teo" Vang performing the last ever solo F-16 display, of the Royal Danish Air Force at RAF Fairford, on Sunday of The Royal International Air Tattoo 2025. This F-16AM, coded E-006, is the second aircraft to appear wearing the 'Dannebrog', Danish flag colours and also incorporates a 'Half Century' design celebrating 50 years of the F-16. At the end of the 3 day airshow, Captain Troels "Teo" Vang was presented with the Sir Douglas Bader Trophy, which was awarded for the Best Individual Flying Demonstration of the show.
The trophy citation said - 'A stalwart of the European display circuit for a number of years, enthusiastically demonstrating an iconic airframe in spectacular livery, in a powerful yet graceful display routine.'
The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is currently the most numerous combat aircraft in NATO. Initially developed for the USAF as a day fighter, the F-16 has evolved into a highly capable multi-role combat aircraft that despite flying for the first time in 1974 is still in production. Over 4,500 F-16s have been produced over the past 50 years and 3,000 of them are still in service with 25 nations around the world. The most recent version is called the Block 70/72 and includes a new cockpit, computers, and an advanced AESA radar.
Denmark originally ordered 77 F-16s which were licence-built by SABCA in Belgium. Today the fleet stands at 48 aircraft in service with 14 in storage. These have been updated to the F-16AM MLU specification which includes the Link 16 datalink, Helmet Sight, Targeting Pods, new computers and the ability to use the Aim-9X Sidewinder providing a full multi-role capability. The Royal Danish Air Force retired their remaining F16 fleet on 18 January 2026, as deliveries continue of the F-35A. 19 retired F16 airframes have been transferred to the Ukrainian Air Force, where they have already been used in combat. 24 F-16s have been sold to Argentina for around US$86 Million, with Denmark donating the proceeds to Ukraine.
The 2025 airshow season was the final year of The Royal Danish Air Force's solo F-16AM display and this was its final ever display at The Royal International Air tattoo. In addition, a second two-seat F-16BM was shown in the static display.
