This time I used Houdini & Max to create this portal Fx.
The source for the portal was created in Houdini, and the portal smoke simulation was done using Chaos Phoenix in Max. It took a couple of tries to achieve the final result. Then the simulation was exported to Houdini as VDB. It was a pretty big VDB with 50GB of size, and around 24 million voxels were simulated.
In Houdini lightening Fx was created with particle simulation. Lighting, shading, and final render were done in Houdini Mantra. Composited in Nuke The render is a bit noisy, but I was happy with the results 🙂.
