At one time, it is believed that 12,000 covered bridges dotted the landscapes of the United States. As the numbers dwindled, many people recognized the value of the remaining bridges and have made efforts to find the bridges, photograph them, and preserve them. This is the story of Dr. Jim Huey's journey in pursuit of the remaining covered bridges of North America, the challenge of finding them in pre-GPS/internet times, and his adventures along the way.
