Altın Gün - deep cuts
I believe no one understands my taste in music quite like my brother Tanser. Only once or twice a year he sends me a recommendation, but almost every time, it hits me straight in the heart. That’s exactly how it was with Altın Gün. From the very first seconds I heard them, I knew: this is my band. I couldn’t stop listening, I had to hear everything that was out at the time, and that was back in 2019.

Since then, I’ve taken every chance I could to see Altın Gün live. To me, they are more than just brilliant musicians, they breathe new life into old classics, with both respect and soul. They transform old Turkish folk songs into something timeless, something that makes you dance, that makes you cry, that makes you dance again, and cry again.

Altın Gün, for me, are a bridge between tradition and the present, between melancholy and ecstasy. I hope you’ll feel this music as deeply as I do and let it carry you, again and again, through tears and through dance.

This set was also special to me because it was the very first time I combined vinyl records with digital files in a DJ set, using DVS control vinyls to bring it all together. Unfortunately, not all of these songs are available on vinyl. My favorite Altın Gün album, Alem, was only released digitally, which is why I used DVS for the tracks from that album.

A DEEP CUT is a lesser known piece of music that presents one or more of the following traits:
1. it has never been played live or gets performed rarely
2. it is not frequently heard on the radio because it is not a hit and, as a result, doesn’t fit within most of the ordinary and commercially appealing playlists
3. it is known almost exclusively by the truest and most devoted fans of a given artist or band
4. the label “deep cut” can be assigned to any of the album tracks that have not been published as a single
5. it is considered as a particularly brilliant song that most of a band’s ordinary fans are generally unaware of
6. it is a track buried in the huge catalogue of an artist with a long career
7. it may be any of an artist’s older songs that is not played live or broadcast as frequently as it was before
