ID (Induced Draft) Fan as a "Giant Exhaust Fan" for the power plant.
The Basic Concept
Just like an exhaust fan in a kitchen pulls out smoke and heat, the ID Fan pulls out the hot flue gases and smoke from the boiler's furnace.
How it Works (Step-by-Step)
Creates Suction: The fan is located between the boiler and the chimney. When it rotates, it creates Negative Pressure (a vacuum) inside the boiler.
Pulls the Gas: This vacuum "sucks" the hot gases through the entire system—past the water tubes, the air heater, and the dust filters (ESP).
Clears the Path: Without this fan, the smoke would get stuck inside the boiler, and the fire would go out because there's no room for fresh air.
Pushes to Chimney: Once the fan collects the gas, it gives it enough "push" (pressure) to send it high up out of the chimney.
Why is it used?
Balance: It works with the FD Fan (which pushes fresh air in). Together, they keep the pressure inside the boiler perfectly balanced so that hot gases don't leak out of the doors.
Safety: It ensures that the fire in the furnace always has a "pathway" to breathe.
Environment: It forces the dirty smoke through filters (ESP) to catch the ash before it reaches the atmosphere.
