In 2015, over 1.1 billion people in the world smoked tobacco. With more than 300 million smokers in China, about one in every 3 cigarettes smoked in the world is smoked in China.
Until recently, Chinese smokers could light up pretty much anywhere. Now, with a nationwide ban on smoking in public places expected in the coming months, a culture shift will be needed to enforce it. And a Chinese invention that has taken the world by storm also poses a challenge to public smoking bans in China.
