North Walsham is a small market town found in the north-east corner of Norfolk, just south of the larger town of Cromer and only 15 miles away from the county town of Norwich. With a population of around 12,500 people, it started off as an Anglo-Saxon settlement, and is a popular commuter town for Norwich now. The town first rose to prominence in the 13th Century thanks to the arrival of weavers from Flanders who began producing a light cloth. The churches in the town from the 14th century, the 'wool churches', show just how prosperous these mill owners were. The imposing Church of St Nicholas with its ruined tower is a lovely spot to visit too.
