Описание: IN THE 1ST DEGREE is an FMV game released by Broderbund in 1995 for Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.

In the game, you take the role of a prosecuting district attorney named Sterling Granger who is trying to convict the defendant in a homocide case, an art gallery owner that apparently killed his partner after an art scam gone wrong. The accused pleads to have acted in self-defense but evidence suggests that he in fact did plan and willingly commit the murder. To achieve your goal, you must review documents and evidence, analyze witness interview tapes, and conduct your own interrogations before going to court.

Based on the questions you ask the witnesses during interrogation and trial, you can trigger different endings of the game. Ultimately, you want to persuade the witnesses to cooperate during the initial interrogations to have them on your side when the trial is up. At the same time, you must be tricky and gather as many information from them as possible. The goal of the game is having the defendant being charged guilty of murder in the first degree. However, if you are not doing well, you might end up losing the case altogether.

This video shows the best outcome of the trial: defendant is charged guilty on charges of grand theft and murder in the 1st degree. Credits to the unknown uploader of the written walkthrough I have used for this recording.

From a technical aspect, IN THE FIRST DEGREE is an astonishingly well-made interactive movie for its time. The mood and atomosphere of the game are expertly set and the acting is way above average. I would say the only thing missing to make this game a great experience are some twists or surprises during the actual trial. Otherwise, a very sophisticated FMV title of the mid-90s.

Sorry for the crackling sound every now and then. I seem to have this problem with a lot of FMV titles I emulate via DOSBox. I tried to tweak the options of DOSBox for hours, trying all different sorts of parameters and options - but I just can't get it to work properly. If you have any advice, please share.
