The teaching "Ask and it will be given to you" sounds simple, but its meaning can be deeper and its results surprising.
I hadn't even thought about this passage when I wondered who Jesus might meet if he walked down the main street of our city. Yet, just minutes after asking that question and settling into my office, someone came in needing new shoes. It was cold and snowy, and their shoe had a big hole in the sole. I quickly arranged for shoes to be delivered to the church.
Then the door opened again. Another person arrived with foot pain, seeking prayer. The first visitor, now with shoes, offered to pray. Soon, both left-the one with new shoes, the other relieved of pain. Blessings touched them both
—and me as well.
Before long, someone else came in, curious about the church and how to get involved.
This reminds us that when we ask Jesus to walk with us, we need to be ready to join him in caring for others. It's amazing how everyday miracles unfold when we invite Jesus to walk Main Street alongside us.
