[FWR] Red Ball 3 Any% Speedrun in

I finally did it, my best full game speedrun yet. I can't begin to explain how overjoyed and satisfied I am with this run. When I started this grind my goal was to get a 4:58, as deep inside I knew that a sub 5 would not satisfy me. Sub 5 took me 5 chokes to Boss, which was not the most pleasant experience, but it eventually ended up becoming a reality. Around 1 hour after the first sub 5 which was a 4:59.200, I got a 4:58.833 which could have been a 4:57 had I not choked the boss. Due to that, I decided I would go for a 4:57, and during the 4:57 grind I realized that the NG+ WR was 4:57.067, so I had a glimmer of hope that the next WR would be a 4:56. If it didn't happen, I might have stopped anyways, since I didn't want to enter a vicious circle. Luckily enough, my 4th Sub 5 ended up being the run of my dreams where I didn't choke the boss, and got both the Any% WR, and the NG+ WR without skipping the entirety of level 8. I would say that this is more optimized than my Red Ball 2 WRs, and it's one of the best things that have ever happened to me during my still ongoing speedrunning career. This could not have happened without Cookie, who showed me that strats such as Prexmas 15 and TAS 16 were RTA-viable, and made me realize that sub 5 was doable with the strats we already had when he started his grind. About the potential timesave, the early game (Levels 1-10) was really clean, and a perfect run without a faster 7 strat would shave 4 seconds off the 10 exit at most. The mid-game (Levels 11-16) was alright, with around 1.5s lost in 12, and 1.7s lost in 15. There is a strategy in 13 where you skip doing the ramp PJ, which you will probably see in runs at some point in the future. The late game (Levels 17-20) was great, with just around a second lost to my gold in 18 due to the lever not willing to cooperate the first time. I'm glad I was able to back that up using the helicopter tail, and extremely thankful for the fact that the rest of the run went exactly according to the plan. There is a strategy in boss where you can save 2 seconds by doing a bunch of precise inputs including instant pausing and unpausing by taking advantage of the pause button in the top left of the screen (I was planning to go for this strat if my best possible time was below 4:56.1 going into the boss, which is why the button is highlighted throughout the entire run except for level transitions). However, this instant pausing and unpausing method came in useful in level 7, where I did the blind frame perfect a frame early, and the only way to back it up was to unpause, and pause once again the next frame. Anyway, my best possible time going into boss was 4:54, so I did not go for the TAS strat, and I secured the incredible WR. Removing all of the timeloss from this run would result in a time close to 4:48 (4:46 with TAS boss), not to mention the PJ-less 13 ending which would save around 0.7s, a faster 7 strat that would save around 2, and TAS 17 which would save another second. While this does look promising, it's much easier said than done, and it will likely take a few more advances in the strathunting/setuphunting territory for 4:4x to happen, but it is possible, and it is in a similar spot that sub 5 was back when I got the first 5:0x. I personally believe that 4:4x will happen, I don't know if it will be me, I don't know if it will be Cookie, it could be anyone on the leaderboard right now, or it could be a completely new person, time will tell. For now, I will enjoy the satisfaction that this run has provided me with, and will continue to speedrun Red Ball for as long as I find it enjoyable. Peace.
