In 2022, the Museum celebrated the opening of its major exhibition "Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of Los Angeles Country-Rock," presented by City National Bank, with a concert featuring an all-star lineup. For the first time, that concert is available to stream. In this clip, Chris Hillman (the Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers, Desert Rose Band), Herb Pedersen (Desert Rose Band), and Al Perkins perform “Wheels" by the Flying Burrito Brothers.
When the Byrds fired Gram Parsons in mid-1968, and Chris Hillman left shortly afterward, the two became roommates and started writing songs together ("Sin City," "Wheels"). They formed the Flying Burrito Brothers with bassist Chris Ethridge and steel guitarist Sneaky Pete Kleinow. Drummers Jon Corneal and Eddie Ho recorded with the band, then former Byrd Michael Clarke became the full-time drummer. Their debut album, "The Gilded Palace of Sin" (1969), stands as an important benchmark in country-rock.
Made possible in part by exhibit travel partner American Airlines.
