Members of the California Multi-Tiered System of Supports (CA MTSS) Research Consortium, Dr. Seenae Chong, Dr. Danfeng Koon, Izamar Ortiz-Gonzalez, and Cecilia Jordan, shared research study findings that show that current MTSS implementation has taken a race-evasive approach to building and aligning systems, missing an opportunity to move the needle on racial disproportionality. They proposed an alternative race-conscious MTSS framework as well as provided resources and tools for educators working to address the root causes of racial disproportionality and build school systems that center and celebrate students’ race and cultural backgrounds.
