This is my analysis into the writings of Saint Athanasius of Alexandria on the topic of the Holy Spirit, His divinity, his activity, his origin, the filioque.
I engage with every such verse that can be interpreted as to prove the filioque.
I argue that because Athanasius says that the Spirit is the vital activity (energeia) of the Son, and the method he uses to prove the divinity is unity of operation, that quotes like "the spirit is in the Son" in context should be taken to mean energetically as "all grace is from the Father through the Son in the Spirit".
If anyone has any objections please leave them below as I want to engage them. I want to find out what Athanasius believes, not if Athanasius agrees with me or not by reading him, not reading into him.
I also did not use any pseudo Athanasius, such as his dialogues on the Trinity, His Questions or small statements like the Athanasian creed. I only used the certainly authentic works attributed to him.
