Project Requirements:
For this project you are to represent a dream or memory in an abstract way. The dream or memory does not have to be one of your own, it does not have to be true. This video can be a non-narrative, meaning it does not have a plot or a conclusion. You will represent the dream or memory abstractly by using symbolism. Choose at least 2 symbolic objects, that will reoccur throughout your video. (Think about Meshes of the Afternoon and the reoccurring key and knife.)
You may use people in your video but do not worry about too caught up in creating characters. A non-narrative means that there is no “character growth.”
Criteria:
1-3 minutes in length
Silent OR with Sound (no identifiable music!)
Include a minimum of 2 symbolic objects
Optional:
You may include still images with video clips
You will learn the foundations of creating a video sequence in Adobe Premiere and editing footage, color, and sound, as well as exporting your final video as an H.264 file saved as a compressed mp4. When creating this video, think about how a specific edits can change a place, or how a perception can be altered by shifts in location, or the visual representation of specific sites. For source material, you may use video you take yourself, family videos, animations you create, or appropriated videos. If you appropriate your source videos be sure to change them enough through editing and context that they assume a significantly new meaning, and create a critical context for footage. You may add sound if you wish or your film may be silent, either option is fine as long your choice supports your concept and video. Please no identifiable popular music, avoid creating what could be read as a music video.
