A chippy is selling deep fried festive treats in the run up to Christmas - including battered pigs in blankets, pickled onions and MINCE PIES.
Birmingham's Hawthorn Fish Bar is also offering its own 'Christmas dinner' - chips loaded with chicken kebab meat, stuffing fritters, pigs in blankets and gravy.
Owner Palvinder Singh, 62, said they came up with unusual seasonal menu alongside their traditional fayre due to customer demand.
He had wanted to do "something a little bit different" for the winter season and said the Yuletide treats were proving a hit.
The battered mince pies can be snapped up for £1.50 each, while customers can get three battered pickled onions for £1.99 and five battered pigs in blankets for £4.49.
But the £5.99 "Festive Chips" are proving the most popular with the chippy getting through 50-100 portions a week.
Palvinder, who has owned the shop since 1982, said: "Every year we try and come up with something a bit different and we always ask our customers what they would like to see.
"So this year we are serving battered mince pies, battered pigs in blankets and battered pickled onions.
"We are also selling our festive chips, which is chicken meat, stuffing fritters, battered pigs in blankets, all smothered in gravy.
"We have been trying to perfect the recipe through October and November as we do takeaways and we need it to travel well.
"We don't want the meal becoming soggy for the customer - but I think we've got it right now and they are proving very popular.
"We've had an up and down year with staff shortages, rising stock costs and no government support for local businesses.
"So you have to constantly come up with new ideas and we want our customers coming back to us throughout December.
"We want to prove that the local chippy can very much be part of this time of the year.
"People are so busy and there's all the shopping and school events, so sometimes you don't feel like cooking.
"But we want to give people value for money and through conversations with our wholesalers I think we've managed to keep prices reasonable."
The chip shop in Kingstanding was named in the top 40 list of best takeaways in The National Fish and Chip Awards this year.
Palvinder, who runs the shop alongside his son Amrit Singh, 34, and daughter-in-law Sandy Kaur, 31, says they are constantly thinking up new ideas to keep customers happy.
Last week they gave away free cones of chips to people who came in wearing Christmas jumpers and are now also offering festive drinks and cake.
Sandy said: "People can enjoy a mulled wine or a beer to take home with them.
"We're also offering half price kebabs on Christmas Eve.
"We've continued to grow and we are grateful to our loyal customers so this Christmas we wanted to give a little something back.
"It's our way of saying thank you."
