While surfing should be Priority #1 on a surf trip, don't let it be the only thing you do when you're traveling to a new spot. My previous career as a pro bodyboarder allowed me to surf many amazing spots all over the world, but I made sure to take advantage of seeing all that each country had to offer - including some amazing spots on land. Make sure to take at least one day (preferably when you're feeling really sore/need a day off) on your next surf trip to have a non-surfing adventure - you won't regret it.
