India has officially unveiled its AI Governance Guidelines, a major step in shaping the country’s artificial intelligence future.
Released by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under the IndiaAI Mission, these guidelines outline how India plans to ensure responsible, inclusive, and safe AI adoption across sectors.
The framework focuses on seven key principles- trust, people-centricity, responsible innovation, equity, accountability, understanding large AI models (LLMs), and ensuring safety, resilience, and sustainability.
It also sets out a clear action plan with short-, medium-, and long-term goals, from creating India-specific risk frameworks to drafting future AI laws as the technology evolves.
Institutions like RBI, SEBI, TRAI, NITI Aayog, and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) will play crucial roles in making this framework a reality.
