Janet Price is a renowned opera singer who was born in 1938 in Pontypool, Wales. She studied piano and singing at Cardiff University with famous teachers such as Olive Groves, Isobel Baillie and Hervey Alan. She also studied in Paris with the legendary Nadia Boulanger. She made her debut in 1964 with BBC Wales, and soon became a specialist in the 19th-century Italian bel canto repertoire. She performed in many operas by composers such as Meyerbeer, Mercadante, Donizetti, Auber, and others, often with Opera Rara, a company dedicated to rediscovering rare and neglected works, she became known as Opera Rara’s First Prima Donna. She also sang in operas by Mozart, Haydn, Handel, and many others, and appeared in various festivals and opera houses around the world. She recorded several albums along with many live performances, and received acclaim for her expressive and virtuosic singing. She has been married to composer Adrian Beaumont since 1963, and lives in Bristol. She is also a patron of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, and has an opera prize named after her.

It is a great shame that Opera Rara have never released any of the recordings they have of Janet Price especially those she made in live performances in the early 1970s for them.

It is important that we give our grateful thanks to those people who have over the many years taken into the opera houses and concert halls recording equipment. It is their daring and perseverance to capture a lot of these recordings that will stand the test of time long after we have all gone. Thank you for giving us these treasures.
