The LUCAS drone (Low-cost Unmanned Combat Attack System) is the U.S. military’s new low-cost one-way attack drone designed to counter threats like Iran’s Shahed-136.
At first glance it looks similar to the Shahed, but the concept is different. LUCAS focuses on mass-produced, low-cost precision strike capability combined with modern battlefield networking.
Some versions are reported to be equipped with satellite communication systems such as Starlink/Starshield, allowing two-way data link, long-range control, and coordinated drone operations beyond line of sight.
Instead of spending millions on interceptors, militaries are now investing in cheap drones that can be produced in large numbers to overwhelm defenses.
