Franklin residents face power outages and blocked roads as ice storm grips area

Описание: Thousands of customers were without power across Middle Tennessee on Monday as freezing rain and ice continued to weigh down power lines and trees, according to Middle Tennessee Electric.

Many of the outages were reported in Williamson County, including large portions of Franklin.

FOX 17 News crews were on Eddy Lane in Franklin, where a power line was seen hanging just a few feet off the ground, heavily coated in ice.

Just a block away, a tree fell across a side road within the last hour, blocking traffic and trapping residents. One neighbor told FOX 17 he was preparing to walk nearly three miles to a family member’s home with power because he could not drive around the fallen tree.

Franklin Fire Department crews arrived while FOX 17 was on scene and cut the tree out of the roadway.

Middle Tennessee Electric said it has between 500 and 600 crew members working to restore power, including contractors who were brought in ahead of the storm.

Utility officials said restoration efforts are expected to continue into Tuesday.

With ice still clinging to trees and power lines and winds continuing, officials warned that additional outages are possible.

Williamson County has opened warming shelters at Fairview High School and Franklin High School. Residents are allowed to bring cats and dogs and are encouraged to bring their own food.
