ABySS-5G was selected under the third IMAGINE-B5G Open Call and demonstrated the use of a 5G-connected autonomous boat, “Kaluga,” for human safety, surveillance, and environmental monitoring near the Port of Valencia. The project tested real-world operations including maritime surveillance, incident detection, deployment of lifebuoys, and pollution monitoring, all remotely controlled via a 5G network to ensure low-latency and reliable communication.
The project showcased how unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) can enhance emergency response, reduce operational costs, improve safety, and provide a sustainable and inclusive approach to maritime monitoring. Integration of advanced sensors and high-speed communication enabled real-time monitoring and decision-making, demonstrating significant improvements in flexibility, efficiency, and reliability for coastal operations.
ABySS-5G was part of the IMAGINE-B5G project, supporting experimentation and innovation towards future B5G and 6G networks.
