The Bullet Cluster is a pair of colliding galaxy clusters, and provides compelling evidence for the existence of dark matter. More details about this can be found in the description of • The Bullet Cluster with Cold Dark Matter .
In this video we show the output from a simulation related to those described in https://arxiv.org/abs/1605.04307. This simulation assumed that there is no dark matter, and that instead the majority of mass in the Bullet Cluster was in the form of hot gas. The resulting distribution of gas disagrees with what is observed in the real Universe, and the gravitational lensing peak coincident with the galaxies (as seen in the observed Bullet Cluster) is not present.
The simulations were run by Andrew Robertson (http://community.dur.ac.uk/andrew.rob...) at the Institute for Computational Cosmology (http://icc.dur.ac.uk/) in Durham. A version of this video without the watermark is available upon request. For those interested in how the video was made from the simulation data I hope to write about this soon.
