After my last post featuring a 5-year-old playing Clementi received so much love,
I looked back at my recordings from the past few years.
🎹 Several children around 5 years and 10 months old
🎹 About one year of piano study
🎹 All playing the same piece:
Clementi · Sonatina Op.36 No.1
For many young pianists,
this is their first sonatina—
their first step into the world of sonata form.
The technique is still developing,
the fingers still growing,
but the rhythm is clear, the musicality is alive,
and most importantly,
they are truly making music.
Almost every piano student meets this piece one day.
Familiar, yet never simple—
a small door opening to a much bigger musical journey.
