India's long-awaited agreement with GE Aerospace for the 80 percent Transfer of Technology (ToT) for manufacturing the F-414 engine in India is now expected to be finalized around March 2026, according to information shared with idrw.org. The prospective USD 1.5 billion deal has been fully negotiated, with both parties agreeing on the ToT framework, including contributions from GE's global suppliers. The deal now awaits formal approval from both governments, a process expected to be concluded within the first quarter of 2026.
The F-414 engine is the heart of India's Tejas MkII program, and the ToT deal marks one of the most significant engine technology collaborations India has secured to date. Under the agreement, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will progressively absorb the manufacturing, assembly, testing, and maintenance processes, allowing India to build, service, and sustain its own F-414 engine ecosystem.
