The Flemish composer Adriaen Willaert, like many of his compatriots, played an important role in the creation of the Italian musical language of the Renaissance.
He composed both sacred and secular works for every musical genre. He is, however, best known historically for the double-choir technique that he invented and developed whilst maestro di cappella of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice.
