The great bell of Aurdal Kirke rang for the memorial of victims of a terror attack against Coptic Christians in 2017.
The bell was cast in 1752 in the Netherlands by Iohan Nicolaus Derck, weight circa 400kg in Bb (Sib3, B1) - a baroque septime bell.
Aurdal Kirke recieved two new bells cast by Allanconi & Hoffmann in 2017, the video was shot during installation works.
This style of ''slow swinging'' is practiced in some places all over Europe to signal mourning, I learned it myself in Xanten, where this custom was practiced for the ''recital of the dead'' on All Souls Day and for some funeral services - after 2012, I continued this tradition in some other towers, I like this special sound it creates.
