🎻 Kyla Brennan performs The Butterfly Lovers, one of the most beloved works in Chinese classical music, composed by He Zhanhao & Chen Gang in 1959. Inspired by an ancient Chinese legend often called the “Chinese Romeo and Juliet,” the piece tells the story of two lovers whose spirits transform into butterflies. Originally written as a violin concerto, it blends Western orchestral tradition with Chinese musical storytelling, requiring expressive phrasing, emotional sensitivity, and refined technical control.
